London protests Trump’s Muslim Ban

Tens of thousands of protestors descended on Whitehall on January 30, 2017 to stage an ‘emergency demo’ against US President Donald Trump’s  executive order which sought to bar people from seven Muslim-majority countries entering the US. In addition to the travel ban, Trump’s order also indefinitely banned the entry of Syrian refugees.

Owen Jones, the author and journalist who organised the demo called Theresa May’s attempt to ally herself and the UK with Trump a ‘matter of national shame.’ Just days before Trump’s travel ban was put into effect, PM May had visited with Trump and was photographed smiling and holding hands with him.

Although the UK government is planning to host Trump sometime in the autumn of 2017, many citizens are set to continue protesting such amicable relations with the controversial US president.

Buses, cars, and other traffic on Whitehall is brought to a halt as thousands of demonstrators descend to protest Donald Trump’s Muslim Ban.

Demonstrators were appalled by the failure of UK Prime Minister Theresa May to condemn the Muslim Ban following her visit with US President Donald Trump. With Brexit burning the UK’s political bridges left right and centre, many suggest that May is now desperate for allies, regardless of their moral qualities or stances on human rights.
